Spousal Sponsorship Consultant in Surrey, BC

Surrey is home to many families who’ve built their lives across two countries. Many people here got married back home in India, the Philippines, or elsewhere, and now want their spouse by their side in Canada. Others met their partner here, while one of them was studying or working on a temporary permit.

Whatever your story, the goal is the same: to live together in Canada without worrying about visas and deadlines. The sponsorship process, though, can feel stressful. IRCC looks closely at every relationship, processing times have grown, and a refusal can set you back by a year or more.

At Captain Consultants Ltd., our office is right here in Surrey. Our licensed Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) helps couples prepare honest, well-organized sponsorship files that show their relationship clearly. We understand the families and traditions in our community, and we help you explain your story in a way IRCC can easily follow.

Situations We Often See in Surrey

Every couple is different, but many of our clients face similar challenges:

  • Marriage abroad after a short courtship: Couples who married soon after meeting, or after an arranged introduction, often need to show clearly how the relationship developed.
  • Limited time spent together: When the sponsor lives in Surrey and the spouse lives overseas, there may be only a few visits, so every piece of evidence counts.
  • A spouse who was refused a visitor visa before: Past refusals must be disclosed and don’t automatically stop a sponsorship, but they need to be handled properly.
  • A sponsor who recently became a PR: Many former international students in Surrey are now permanent residents and ready to sponsor. We check that everything in your own immigration history lines up.
  • A partner on a temporary permit: Couples living together in Surrey, where one partner’s work or study permit is running out, need to plan their timing carefully.
  • Previous marriages or children: Divorce papers, custody documents, and children’s details must be complete and consistent.

Our Partner Sponsorship Services

Sponsoring a Spouse From Overseas

This is the most common case we help with in Surrey. Your spouse lives outside Canada, and you want to bring them here as a permanent resident. We help you build a strong outland file that shows the full history of your relationship.

Sponsoring a Spouse Already in Surrey

If your spouse or partner already lives with you in Canada, you may apply inland. We help you plan their temporary status and any open work permit during processing.

Common-Law Partner Sponsorship

If you’ve lived together for at least 12 months in a row, you may sponsor your partner as common-law. We help you show proof of living together, such as a shared lease, bills, and mail at the same address.

Sponsor Requirements at a Glance

Status in Canada

You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Permanent residents must live in Canada to sponsor.

Age

You must be at least 18 years old.

Financial Responsibility

You must agree to support your spouse for three years after they become a permanent resident. This promise stays in place even if the relationship ends.

No Sponsorship Bars

You may not be able to sponsor if you were sponsored as a spouse less than five years ago, receive social assistance for reasons other than disability, owe money from a past sponsorship or immigration loan, are an undischarged bankrupt, or have certain criminal convictions.

Can I sponsor my spouse if I'm on a work permit?

No. Only Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor a spouse. If you’re on a work permit, your spouse may be able to get their own work or visitor permit, but the rules for spousal open work permits are now much stricter.

How long do we need to be married before I can sponsor my spouse?

There’s no minimum length of marriage. However, IRCC will look at whether your relationship is genuine, so a short relationship needs strong evidence.

Are arranged marriages accepted for spousal sponsorship?

Yes. Arranged marriages are accepted. You should explain how the match was arranged, how you and your families were involved, and how your relationship has developed since.
