Study Permit Consultant in Surrey, BC

Surrey is one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada, and it has become a top choice for international students. With Kwantlen Polytechnic University, SFU’s Surrey campus, and many other schools nearby, thousands of students choose to build their future here.

Getting to Surrey, or staying here, starts with the right study permit. And these days, that’s not as simple as it used to be. Canada now limits the number of study permits it issues, proof-of-funds amounts have gone up, and IRCC checks every file closely. Many students also don’t learn until after they graduate that their program won’t lead to a work permit.

At Captain Consultants Ltd., our office is right here in Surrey. Our licensed Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) helps students and families plan carefully, choose wisely, and prepare accurate study permit applications, from the first question to the final decision.

Common Problems Surrey Students Face

We meet students every week who are dealing with the same issues. Here’s what comes up most often:

  • Choosing a program without checking PGWP eligibility: Many private college programs don’t lead to a Post-Graduation Work Permit. Some students only learn this after they’ve paid their tuition.
  • Weak or unclear study plans: If your program doesn’t match your past education or work, the officer may doubt your reasons for studying.
  • Proof of funds that raises questions: Large deposits, funds from unclear sources, or missing sponsor papers can lead to a refusal.
  • Permits expiring during studies: Students sometimes miss the deadline to extend and risk losing their status.
  • Changing schools the wrong way: A school transfer can affect your permit and your future work permit if it isn’t handled properly.
  • Repeated refusals: Reapplying without fixing the real problem often leads to the same result.

How Captain Consultants Ltd. Helps

We don’t just fill out forms. We look at the full picture: your goals, your school, your finances, and your future plans in Canada. Here’s what we do:

  • Eligibility and file assessment:

We review your background and give you an honest view of your file’s strengths and weak spots.

  • Program and school check:

Before you commit, we check that your school is a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and whether your program may lead to a PGWP.

  • PAL guidance:

We confirm whether you need a Provincial Attestation Letter from BC or whether you’re exempt.

  • Study plan support:

We help you explain your goals clearly and honestly, in a way that’s easy for an officer to follow.

  • Proof of funds review:

We check bank statements, GICs, education loans, and sponsor documents to make sure they’re clear and complete.

  • Personal document checklist:

Your checklist is based on your country, your program, and your family situation.

Key Study Permit Requirements

Rules change often, so we always check the latest IRCC requirements for each client. In general, you’ll need:

Letter of Acceptance From a DLI

Your school must be on IRCC’s list of Designated Learning Institutions. Not every school in Surrey is.

Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL)

Most college and undergraduate students need a PAL from British Columbia. Master’s and PhD students at public schools, and some other groups, don’t.

Proof of Funds

For a single student outside Quebec, IRCC currently asks for at least $22,895 for living costs, plus first-year tuition and travel. You’ll need more if family members are coming with you.

Can I apply for a study permit from inside Canada?

Only some people can. For example, you may be able to apply from inside Canada if you already hold a study or work permit, or if you’re the family member of someone who does. Most visitors must apply from outside Canada. We can check which option applies to you.

What happens if my study permit expires?

If you applied for an extension before your permit expired, you can usually keep studying under the same conditions while you wait for a decision. If your permit has already expired, you may need to restore your status, and there are strict time limits for that. Contact a licensed consultant as soon as possible.

Can I change my college or university in Canada?

Yes, but you must follow the correct steps. A school change can affect your permit conditions and your PGWP eligibility, so get advice before you transfer.
