Super Visa Consultant in Surrey, BC

For many families in Surrey, having parents and grandparents nearby is at the heart of home life. They help raise the children, share festivals and family meals, and keep the family close. But ordinary visitor visas usually allow only short stays, and the Parents and Grandparents Program for PR has very limited spots.

The Super Visa gives families another way. It lets parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents stay in Canada for up to five years at a time, without leaving to renew their status. Even so, many Super Visa applications are refused because of income documents, insurance problems, or doubts about the parents’ plans.

At Captain Consultants Ltd., we help families in Surrey prepare strong, complete Super Visa applications. Our licensed Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) checks your eligibility, reviews your income and insurance, and helps you present your family’s situation clearly.

Why Super Visa Applications Get Refused

These are the problems we see most often with families in Surrey, Delta, and the Lower Mainland:

  • Income that doesn’t meet the minimum: The host must meet the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) for their family size, and the numbers must be calculated correctly.
  • Wrong or incomplete insurance: The medical insurance must meet strict rules, and a simple quote isn’t enough.
  • Weak invitation letter: The letter must include the host’s promise of financial support and clear details about the family.
  • Doubts about the parents’ ties to home: Officers need to believe the parents will leave Canada at the end of their stay.
  • Past visitor visa refusals: These don’t stop a Super Visa, but they must be disclosed and handled carefully.
  • Missing medical exam: An immigration medical exam is required.

Good News: Income Rules Are More Flexible in 2026

Since March 31, 2026, IRCC has made it easier for some families to meet the income requirement:

  • Two-year option: Hosts can now use their income from either of the two most recent tax years, which helps if your income dropped last year because of parental leave or a job change.
  • Parents’ income can help: In some cases, a visiting parent’s or grandparent’s own income, such as a pension or rental income, can now count towards part of the requirement.

These changes may help families who were refused before. We’ll check whether you qualify.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a Super Visa and a visitor visa?

A regular visitor visa usually allows stays of up to six months at a time. A Super Visa lets parents and grandparents stay for up to five years per entry. The Super Visa has stricter requirements, such as minimum income and medical insurance.

Up to five years at a time. They can also apply to extend their stay while in Canada. The visa itself can be valid for up to 10 years, with multiple entries.

You must meet the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) for your total family size, including your visiting parents or grandparents. The amounts are updated each year, and since March 2026 some families can use more flexible income options.

Since March 31, 2026, in some cases, yes. A visiting parent’s or grandparent’s income can now help cover part of the requirement, as long as the host meets most of it on their own.

No. The Super Visa is a visitor visa and doesn’t allow work in Canada.

No. Super Visa holders aren’t covered by BC’s Medical Services Plan. That’s why private medical insurance is required.

No. Only parents and grandparents, and their spouses or common-law partners, can apply. Dependent children of parents can’t be included.

It depends on the country your parents apply from. Check the IRCC website for current processing times.

Not directly. For PR, you’d need to sponsor your parents through the Parents and Grandparents Program when intake is open. The Super Visa lets them spend long periods with you in the meantime.
